![]() ![]() You will most likely need to remove the alternator and its belt to obtain easy access to the sensor. (on top) It is between the ECM (engine control module aka the engine computer) and the alternator. How many sensors do the 00 silverados have? Is there one just for the upper reservoir or one for the lower aswell? Is there anything I might need to do to remove the air bubbles that may be causing the sensor to be acting up. Recently my low coolant light went on and I had an oh sh moment and pulled over immediately to check for leaks. The ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) is located on the drivers side, front of the engine.So, at this point I'm thinking its just a bad sensor. Also, the oil cooler may have failed allowing coolant to enter the engine oil. ![]() Check the oil for engine coolant ASAP If the lower intake gaskets failed coolant can freely flow into the engine undetected. I've driven about 50 miles since this problem first occurred and I've religiously checked the coolant level and below the truck for any leaks, of which I've found none. Stop Do not start the engine until you determine that the lower intake manifold gaskets have not failed. The coolant had a bit of water in it so I wouldn't be surprised if it evaporated over time (through the vent hose on top of the upper reservoir).Īnyways, I added about 1/4 gallon of coolant and it is above the cold fill line. The coolant level was at the bottom opening of the upper reservoir, and I honestly think it was there or slightly higher for a while. ![]() After connecting shop air slowly turn the shutoff valve until the gauge reads 42 PSI. Before connecting the J-46091-1 regulator to shop air back off the regulator valve all the way to by turning it counterclockwise until it stops, then follow the steps listed below. Didn't find any leaks, and fortunately there was quite a bit of coolant left in the engine so it didn't overheat. The rivet shaft does not have to be removed from the regulator.
